The CHPQA Standard document - Issue 1
The CHPQA Standard document is available as a PDF file
The CHPQA Standard is the formal document setting out the CHPQA methodology, definitions, thresholds, and criteria for Good Quality certification.
It closely follows the Government's consultation response issued on 4 July, but a number of changes have been made to simplify the terminology used. This is intended to make the understanding and application of CHPQA as simple as possible, and to reduce the cost burden of compliance (all strong messages received in response to the consultation). For instance, the Standard uses the words 'heat' and 'power', where before terms included 'electricity', 'generation', 'thermal' etc. Not only is this simpler, it is also in keeping with the name of the technology - Combined Heat and Power. Thus, what was called Electrical Efficiency is now Power Efficiency, and Equivalent Capability has become Qualifying Power Capacity.
In addition, all terms relating to energy monitoring have been rationalised (e.g. Equivalent Fuel Input and Equivalent Generation Limit are now called Qualifying Fuel Input and Qualifying Power Output, respectively). All other terms are consistent with this approach.
